Surface Preparation
- The tank base was abrasive blast cleaned to ISO 8501/4 SA2.5 (SSPC SP 10 / NACE 2) standards with a minimum angular blast profile of 75 microns. Any remaining uneven surfaces were smoothed out using a mechanical hand grinder, ensuring a clean and level surface for the repair.
Application of UPS115 XL EXTENDED LIFE METAL
- UPS 115 XL was mixed and applied to the sections of the tank base where the steel thickness had been reduced due to corrosion. The material was applied using a plastic applicator, effectively replacing the lost steel and restoring the tank base to its original dimensions.
Application of UPS205 FG FLUID GRADE CERAMIC
- After an overnight cure, the repaired areas were machined smooth. The entire tank base was then over-coated with two layers of UPS 205 FG, applied by brush at a nominal thickness of 350 microns per coat. This coating provided a robust barrier against future corrosion, ensuring the long-term protection of the tank base.
