Surface Preparation
- The exposed steel at the joint areas was abrasive grit blasted to achieve a surface cleanliness level of SA2.5 with a 75-micron profile, in accordance with ISO 8501/4 Standard SA2.5 (SSPC SP10/NACE 2).
- A 75mm wide band of the existing polyethylene coating on either side of the joint was mechanically abraded to create a rough profile, ensuring proper adhesion of the new coating.
Application of UPS 405 EPC EPOXY PROTECTIVE COATING
- UPS 405 EPC was mixed and applied in two coats to the prepared steel and polyethylene surfaces. Each coat was applied by brush and roller to achieve a nominal dry film thickness of 250 microns.
The dual-coat system provided comprehensive coverage and robust protection against environmental factors that could lead to corrosion.
