SEALITAL Injectable Packing Installation Procedure
- Shut off flush water and remove connection from flush port.
- Remove gland follower, all old packing, and lantern ring.
- Clean stuffing box, sleeve, and gland follower. (NOTE: If flush line will reach face of stuffing box, and pressure is high enough, this may be used for cleaning).
- Cut two rings of packing as supplied and specified on a 45-degree bevel.
- Using an "S" twist to open the split gasket (supplied as option if throat bushing not acceptable for excess clearance) install over shaft. Reverse "S" twist so butt ends meet. Slide and seat gasket in bottom of stuffing box. Using a mirror and flashlight, be certain gasket is fully seated in the bottom of box and that butt ends do not overlap.
- Install first ring of packing in the throat of the stuffing box. Using a mirror and flashlight, be certain ring is fully seated and bevelled ends overlap flush, with no gap.
- Hand pack SEALITAL until enough room is left for one more ring of packing.
- Install second ring of packing (if packing ring is not flush or just below stuffing box face, remove ring, and remove some SEALITAL). Attach gland follower and tighten until SEALITAL extrudes out the open flush connection. NOTE: It may be necessary to remove gland follower and packing ring one or more times to add SEALITAL until extrusion occurs.
- Fill threaded flow through fitting with SEALITAL and install into flush port. Install plug in flow through fitting.
- When leakage occurs, use high-pressure injection gun to add SEALITAL until leakage stops.
NOTE: Where plant maintenance are conducting greasing / oiling procedures, it is also a good time to add SEALITAL as required.
