CALCONN NFW - a sealing device for rotary pumps.

Some information is provided below.</font> <p> <font face="Arial, Helvetica" size="-1"> If you discovered a hole in a pipe that carried a costly product, you would have it repaired at once. <p> Yet - at the end of the pipe is a pump, packed with gland packing, that leaks just as much as the hole in the pipe, or more, and yet we do nothing about it. Why? <p> Most braided packing HAVE TO LEAK, mainly for the following reasons:<br> <ul> <li>The speed of the shaft creates frictional heat, caused by the packing set being stressed by pressure from the gland follower. <li>To prevent excessive heat, which can cause the braided packing to "burn out", leakage along the shaft must be maintained. </ul> The other effect of excessive heat is to cause the braided packing set to cause excessive wear on the shaft / sleeve. By allowing leakage along the shaft this effect can be minimised.<br> The more leakage you get, in the most cases, the less heat generated and subsequently less shaft/ sleeve wear. <p> To address this problem, CALCONN and MARLO have designed and patented a ROTARY SEALING DEVICE that enables the pump to RUN DRY.<br> This RSS (Rotary Sealing Set) also has the added advantage of allowing ALL FLUSHING to be TURNED OFF! <p> FLUSHING is required for THREE MAIN REASONS: <ul> <li>To control temperatures generated by frictional heat. <li>To control dirty or incompatible environments. <li>To act as a safety control. </ul> The CALCONN NFW ROTARY PACKING SET is designed as a module replacement for either braided packing or a mechanical seal, where flushing is becoming expensive to maintain and causing wastage of product, contamination of product and added manufacturing cots due to having to either replace lost flushing medium or in having to remove the added water from final product. <p> The ROTARY PACKING SET is made up of three components: <ul> <li>MALE and FEMALE wedge set constructed of TEFLON / GLASS with Molybdenum Disulphide Lubrication. <li>SEALING RINGS constructed from MARLO PATENTED 396-C Environmental Fugitive Emission Control Packing. The 396-C in the CALCONN NFW is further enhanced by being wrapped with exfoliated graphite to prevent porosity becoming a problem. These rings are set at a specific density to allow COOL running. <li>END RING is manufactured from same material as the WEDGE SET and enhances both pump and sealing set performance by eliminating any areas for extrusion. </ul> The CALCONN NFW SEALING SET ALLOWS FOR:<br> <ul> <li>ALL FLUSHING TO BE TURNED OFF. This can make a major saving in fluid loss, auxiliary equipment requirements, contamination and dilution of process fluid / product. <li>ROTARY SEALING SET CAN BE RUN COMPLETELY DRY. This makes major savings over conventional packing that has to leak and consequently saves the EXPENSIVE LOSS of process fluid. <li>MINIMUM MAINTENANCE. As the graphite packing set has extremely good frictional qualities, wear is at a minimum, and therefore adjustment is also at a minimum. <li>MINIMUM WEAR ON SHAFT / SLEEVE. The graphite protected rings allow for reduced friction and heat generation.
