- The condition of the pump is of vital importance to successful long term running. Particular care should be taken with the following:
- Shaft Run-Out / Defection no greater than 0.05 mm (.002") per shaft through 25 mm (1") to 75 mm (3") shaft. Thereafter, 0.2mm (0.008") Run-Out / Deflection Minimum.
- Shaft Slenderness Ratio, Inch 75, Metric 3. Shaft L3/D4 3 (75)
- No Cavitation or Valve Throttling. Especially if above the Slenderness Ratio above.
- Constant Suction and Discharge Pressure.
- New OR Nearly New Sleeve, Bearings, Wear Rings, etc.
- Prefer Shaft Finish Of 32 - 64 RMS.
- Under 180oC (350oF) Pumpage Temperature.
- Under 10 Bar (150 psig) Pump Discharge Pressure.
- Solids Content of 50% or less.
- Surface Velocity under 12 Metres / Second, 2400 fpm.
- Laser OR reverse Dial Indicator Alignment.
- On Condensate / Boiler Feed, (Hot Water Applications), NO WEDGE IS USED.
PLEASE NOTE.
- Variances do occur in equipment conditions and operations which can disallow the above conditions for complete FLUSH FREE operation.
- In some cases, for instance, cavitation may occur infrequently, but so severely that the above conditions are changed until the cause is remedied. In that case negative results may be obtained.
- This problem assumes FULL intent to ELIMINATE or REDUCE water usage. It is understood that ALL levels of Plant Operations must share this common goal and to put full resource and energy to its purpose.
